  • The role

    The selected candidate will be responsible for: 

    • Planning, preparing and delivering active and engaging lessons 
    • Preparing teaching materials for Functional Skills learners, ranging from Entry Level to levels 1 and 2 
    • Ensuring all planning and teaching is inclusive and addresses the needs of the individual learner 
    • Creating a welcoming environment for learners from a range of educational and cultural backgrounds  
    • Checking and assessing learners’ needs and adapting course content as required  
    • Maintaining a register of attendance and supporting on-site enrolment 
    • Recording achievement and progression results on completion of the course
    • Maintaining accurate records of progression and ensuring evidence is provided for both internal and external moderation
    • Carrying out initial assessments of learners
    • Ensuring learners are well-prepared for final examinations
    • Maintaining a register of attendance and helping with on-site enrolment 

    In addition to the above areas of responsibility, the post-holder may be required to undertake any other reasonable duties relating to the broad scope of the position, commensurate with the post, and in support of Ruskin College. 

  • The person

    The selected candidate must have demonstrable skills in applying a multi-faceted approach to the teaching of Functional Skills as well as a desire to work as a team in a flexible working environment.  A professional and friendly demeanour is essential, as is the will to make a difference to the life chances of the learners whom we teach.

    Safeguarding lies at the core of our business and therefore a strong understanding of what this means for the adults in our care is essential.
